It is stated in the Qur'an and Al-Sunnah that in the month of Ramadan there is one night that is better than a thousand months.. That beautiful night is called Lailatul Qadr or the night of glory. If a Muslim does good deeds that night, then its value is better than doing good deeds for a thousand months or thereabouts 84 year.
A beautiful night that is better than a thousand months is a night full of blessings, glorious night, and has its own special features. Shaykh Muhammad Abduh means words “al-Qadar” with words “discretion”. He thinks so, because of Allah SWT, on that night he determined his religion and set the khittah for his Prophet in calling mankind to the right path. The khittah that was carried out, at the same time freeing humanity from the damage and destruction that at that time was shackling them. (hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy, 1996:247)
Say “al-Qadar” also interpreted as “al-Syarf” which means noble (glory and greatness). It means that on that night Allah SWT elevated the position of Prophet Muhammad SAW and glorified him and made him the last Messenger. This is hinted at in Surah al-Qadar. That night was a glorious night, the night the Al-Qur'an was revealed as the last holy book. The following is the meaning of the contents of Surah al-Qadar which consists of: 5 verse :
'Indeed I have revealed the Qur'an on the night of Lailatul Qadr, Do you know “what is lailatul qadar?”, Lailatul Qadr is a night better than a thousand months, that night the angels and the holy spirit descended (angel Gabriel) with God's permission to arrange all affairs. The night is full of prosperity until dawn'. (QS. Al-Qodar: 1-5)
Surah Al-Qodar explains that Laylatul Qadar is a night that has advantages compared to other nights.. The greatness and specialness of the night of Qadar basically lies in two things, namely the revelation of the Koran and the descent of angels in large numbers, including the angel Gabriel. The angels descended that night with a brilliant light full of peace and prosperity. Their arrival is to convey congratulations to those who have performed the Ramadan fast and performed other acts of worship with full faith.
