National Book Day is celebrated every date 17 Mei

National Book Day (Harbukn) is a celebration every year about the importance of reading culture. Harbuknas is commemorated every date 17 Mei.
Actually the Harbuknas commemoration has started since the year 2002. Minister of Education at the time, Abdul Malik Fadjar, was the one who first triggered the reminder day. Date 17 May was chosen to coincide with the momentum of the day of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, namely 17 Mei 1980.
Harbuknas was coined by several objectives that were expected to be able to bring changes in the culture of Indonesian people's literacy. The main goal is to grow or increase interest in reading and writing (Literacy culture) Among the community.
This is because the interest in reading Indonesian people is still relatively low. This can be known from various surveys that have been conducted by world institutions. For example, the survey results from UNESCO in the year 2011 shows the people's reading level index in Indonesia is only 0,001 percent. It means, from 1000 citizen, There is only one person who has the desire to read books.
While another survey was conducted by Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). The results of the study show that the culture of Indonesian people's literacy is ranked to 64 from 65 the country under study. In the same research, Pisa showed the results of the interest in reading Indonesian students who were placed in order 57 from 65 the country under study.
Even in a research survey released by the Most Literate Nations in March 2016 ago related to international literacy ranking, Indonesia ranks second to the bottom of the total 61 the country under study.
The low culture of literacy in Indonesia needs to be followed up immediately if you do not want to be left behind with other countries. This is certainly a challenge, especially for literacy activists to be able to foster interest in reading Indonesian people. Considering that technology has been developing at this time rapidly, But the lifestyle of Indonesian people actually tends to be more lazy to read and more active in cyberspace like Instagram, Facebook and other applications that function as self -existence.
The government itself continues to overcome these problems through a number of policies issued. For example in the year 2015, The government launched a program by promoting the nation literacy movement (GLB). This movement is listed in Permendikbud Number 23 Year 2015 about the growth of character. In the Permendikbud it is stated that GLB has the aim to foster children's character through the culture of reading and writing (literacy).
GLB itself takes a model to foster character by advocating every student to read for fifteen minutes every day before the lesson begins. This method is expected to cause positive habits for students in the future, especially in increasing interest in reading and writing (literacy).
This movement was later known as the national literacy movement in which there were several sub-moves such as school literacy movements, Family literacy movement, Community literacy movement, and the movement of one teacher one book.
Hopefully the people of Indonesia, especially intellectuals, can become agents of GLB change and make literacy culture grow because "the best way to improve character quality, Competence and welfare of life is to instill literacy culture (reading-thinking-writing-creation)"Boy Manggala- A book writer.
Echoes are always literacy culture for the future. Greetings Literacy! 
