Get to know more about plagiarism (Part 3)

Plagiarism Prevention

In the previous part we were given an explanation in-depth understanding of plagiarism, frequent acts of plagiarism happened in college, causes and administrative sanctions as well as law. We have arrived at the third or final part explains how to deal with acts of plagiarism so that this is not the only thing poses a threat to academics but also to learning and awareness of actions that are invisible but very detrimental to others this. Several steps and habits that can be done to tackle acts of plagiarism, namely :

A. Enforcement strict rules and sanctions against plagiarism

B. Learn citation procedures (direct quote & indirect/paraphrase)

1. Direct quotes – Pay attention rule for less than 40 say, the beginning and end are put in quotation marks. Then for more of or equal to (≥) 40 said The writing is made into a separate paragraph, namely a hanging paragraph, indented in writing font 10, and spaces 1. 2. Indirect quotation (Paraphrase), namely the re-disclosure of something concepts in another way in the same language, but without changing its meaning. Paraphrasing is used when illustrating cases, process, description of a concept, and research results. Pay attention to the start-end boundaries, include last name author, The quotation results must not be similar to the original, take information/ the main idea of a piece of information or paragraph, The method : use the reading system, closed, write.

C. Writing practice is necessary encouraged again, Indonesian language lessons in higher education should be not only teaches linguistic aspects but also their internal use writing scientific papers so that they will produce good and correct writing.

D. Avoid all kinds of blogs as a reference source

E. Avoid Wikipedia

F. Avoid websites with domains commercial (com, net, biz, dll)

G. Learn various models citation :

  • Social Sciences, education, psychology – APA (American Psychological Association) style
  • Sastra, history and art – Turabian And chicago style
  • Technique and Computer Science – IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) style
  • Health, biology, and medicine – AMA (American Medical Association), vancouver style
  • Language and Humanities – MLA (Modern Language Association) style

H. Use citation tools

  • Citation generator : Let's be, easyBib, Citefast, dll
  • Reference manager: Mendeley, so on, refme, dll

I. A sense of respect respects and appreciates the work of others.

J. Use Antiplagiarism Checker. Several Universities Many people in Indonesia are now starting to subscribe software to detect plagiarism of scientific papers. Therefore, so that our writing does not exceeds the specified percentage limit, deep skills required paraphrase an article.
